Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using ChessOTB.ca ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our Service.
Description of Service
ChessOTB.ca is a community initiative that connects Canadian chess players with coaching resources. Our platform provides:
- Post-game video reviews and live coaching sessions for over-the-board tournament games
- A directory of chess clubs across Canada
- Tournament listings and information
- Resources for players, parents, and coaches in the OTB chess community
Coaching services are fulfilled through our partner platform, Roundster.gg.
User Accounts
When you create an account or submit information to us, you agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information
- Maintain the security of your account credentials
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
- Accept responsibility for all activities under your account
Game Submissions
When submitting games for review, you represent that:
- You have the right to submit the game for analysis
- The game notation is accurate to the best of your knowledge
- You consent to the coach viewing and analyzing the submitted game
- For games involving minors, you have parental or guardian consent
Coach Services
Coaches on our platform are independent contractors who set their own rates and schedules. While we vet coaches for qualifications, we do not guarantee specific outcomes from coaching sessions. Reviews and feedback provided by coaches represent their professional opinions.
Coaching sessions are delivered and payments are processed through our partner platform, Roundster.gg. ChessOTB.ca operates with zero markup — all coaching fees go directly to the coaches.
Payment Terms
All payments for coaching services are processed through Roundster.gg. Coaches set their own rates, and ChessOTB.ca does not add any markup or platform fees to coaching transactions. Payment terms, refund policies, and billing are governed by Roundster.gg's terms of service.
ChessOTB.ca's club directory, tournament listings, and community resources are provided free of charge.
Intellectual Property
The ChessOTB.ca website, logo, and original content are owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. Video reviews and coaching content created by coaches remain the intellectual property of the respective coaches, delivered to you through Roundster.gg for personal, non-commercial use.
You retain ownership of the games you submit but grant us a license to use them for providing our services and improving our platform.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Submit false or misleading information
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
- Redistribute or resell coaching content without permission
- Harass or abuse coaches or other users
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChessOTB.ca shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the specific service giving rise to the claim.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved in the courts of British Columbia.
Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
